Ballet Pensacola is a professional company that offers many different programs for students to choose from. The Youth Division focuses on teaching children the fundamentals of ballet, while also introducing students to other styles of dance. The class curriculum emphasizes coordination, artistic expression, and memorization. Children in the youth division are expected to have strong physical qualities and a high level of attention to detail. Each class is taught by highly qualified faculty.
Ballet Pensacola was founded in 1978 as the Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre. The company began in the Eastgate Mall and later added a training program. In 1985, BalletPensacola moved into the former Sacred Heart Hospital and became an anchor tenant of the Pensacola Cultural Center. In 2006, the company changed its name to BalletPensacola and hired Richard Steinert as its artistic director. Before becoming the artistic director, Ball served as the company’s executive and administrative director.
Parents should note that Ballet Pensacola follows the Escambia County District school closure schedule. Children should be potty-trained and able to use the restroom independently before beginning the dance classes. It is advisable to contact the company prior to the start of the class as it follows the school district’s closure schedule. In addition to the Youth Division, there is also a Children’s Division, which focuses on learning basic movement skills.
